Gamers – The Time is Now

Gamers The Time is NowWith the imminent release of the new Xbox One and PS4 (November 22nd, 2013 and November 29th, 2013 respectively in Australia), and the incredible hype surrounding some of the biggest game releases we’ve seen in recent times, it’s a prime opportunity to check out the latest upcoming games.

It’s an exciting time to be a gamer, what with the release of two new consoles within days of each other (both promising unseen power, graphics, sounds, and controls), and the plethora of amazing games that we have been spoilt with, which are not only becoming more affordable, but are becoming more widely available.

So, where to start?

Well, I guess there is no other place to start than Grand Theft Auto 5. I’m not sure if I have seen or heard of any other game in recent memory that has generated such a massive amount of talk and media hype. This is not unexpected though…it’s predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 4, is widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made. It sold 3.6 million units on its first day of release, grossed more than $500 million in revenue in the first week, and has sold more than 25 million copies to date, and counting.

Gamers The Time is NowIf GTA5 is as good as the hype suggests, expect a lot of those records to be smashed.

One unique “caveat” of GTA5 is that, at the time of writing, it is only being released for the Xbox 360 and PS3. No doubt it will come to both new consoles and PC most likely early next year, but for those who can’t wait, you will have to pick it up on one of the existing consoles.

GTA5 is not the only big name release on the horizon…the next few months we will be seeing the next installments of Battlefield, Call of Duty, Batman, Forza, Gran Turisimo, Assassin’s Creed, Dead Rising, FIFA, and the NBA series, just to name a few. Some other titles worthy of a mention that have been recently released or are on the cards include Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Titanfall, Saints Row 4, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, RYSE, Trials Fusion / Trials Frontier, Mad Max, Project CARS, and The Walking Dead Season Two.

No doubt there are other titles that I have missed, but the point is, pretty much every genre is covered by a big name release that is either current or upcoming, meaning that nearly all gamers, no matter which type of games they favour, will be more than satisfied with what the industry currently has on offer.
