A Closer Look At The Affordability And Competitiveness Of General Pants Co. General Pants Co. is a fashion retailer offering street-smart style aimed primarily at the under 25 crowd at very affordable prices. Besides affordability and competitiveness being the two aspects that brought this retailer to our attention, the fact that General Pants are also managing to attract a lot of consumer interest via their highly desirable fashion makes them one to watch.

This post is probably aimed more towards the newbie or part-time General Pants shopper rather than the die-hard fans. However, it does cover some specific details on how to pick up a bargain either online or in-store so may come in useful to more than just the former group of customers.

STYLE OF FASHION

General Pants Co. operate out of several independent stores (mainly East coast) although they can also be found in many shopping centres too. While they do stock apparel from many well known brands, with an overall style focus on streetwear, denim, skate clothing and surfwear, also popular is their own exclusive brand called “Arvust”. This includes singlets, tees, shirts, jumpers, knits, jackets and pants.

A recent addition to their quiver of fashion brands was the financially-troubled Ksubi, whose trendy street fashion is worn by the likes of Miranda Kerr and Nicole Richie. In March of this year General Pants rescued the brand after signing a deal to sell their products through its stores. This has ended months of uncertainty around Ksubi’s future, with many agreeing that it’s now found a more than suitable home from which to expand and succeed with.

FINDING THE BEST VALUE ONLINE/INSTORE

A Closer Look At The Affordability And Competitiveness Of General Pants Co. General Pants Co. do not issue discount codes very often with this year only seeing a handful being released to date. Instead, you’re better off finding great value savings during any one of their frequent sales. Price reductions of at least 50% off are common, although I’ve found that the availability of sufficient sizing options at this discount level can sometimes be fairly limited.

Another of their promotions worth keeping an eye out for are their BOGOF (Buy 1 Get 1 Free) offers, of which there’s one currently on right now – see here. General Pants also run some decent multi-buy offers, e.g. 2 men’s pullovers for $99, which when compared with the wider market often represent good value for money.

PRICES OF NEW COLLECTION ITEMS

A Closer Look At The Affordability And Competitiveness Of General Pants Co. Originality and uniqueness are key drivers of the demand for General Pants’ fashion, and as a result there’s never a shortage of new collections being made available. As a general guideline, outside of their sales or other promotions you’ll tend to find men’s tees selling for around $40-$50, pullovers for $60-$90, and jeans for around $100 (however there are styles going for as much as $200). When it comes to shoes, GP’s selection include many of the brands you’d expect from a skater/surfer orientated fashion outlet including Vans and Converse which on average are priced between $90-$100.

For women, basic tops sell for around $20 while more popular branded items are priced closer to $50. Sweaters and knits start at about $60, jeans at $90, and dresses tend to range between $60 all the way up to $200.

Of all of the above mentioned items, when sales are running you can usually get your hands on pretty much any of them for around $20, dependent on the chosen size and style. Note, shipping is free only on orders over $75 while below this orders carry a $10 delivery charge.

WHERE THEY’RE LEADING THE PACK

A Closer Look At The Affordability And Competitiveness Of General Pants Co. The first example of this company’s forward thinking and innovative approach to doing business was the inclusion of kiosks in its Bondi Junction flagship store last year. This is now being rolled out across all 47 stores country wide. These are delivered via iPads in an experience that blends fashion shopping, social media and music in a bid to engage and enthuse customers. The iPads enable shoppers at General Pants to browse the range, make purchases, post images of themselves to Instagram and also control the in-store music via Spotify.

Another demonstration of their thinking-outside-the-box strategies, was the way they leveraged popular dating app Tinder for its latest advertising campaign. Using the app’s messaging feature, they sent out push notifications inviting users to “get in my pants” through an offer of 20% off for any customer who showed their Tinder profile in-store.

This kind of creativity is exactly the sort of thing we would like to see more of from other fashion retailers in Australia. Especially as there aren’t too many out there at the moment dreaming up any particularly interesting or original ways to offer customers a means of getting better value for money – the mantra behind pretty much everything we do here at Buckscoop. So I’ll be looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.
