Toluna is an online survey-based rewards program, which is quick, easy and completely free to join. As with most survey centres, Toluna also offers bonus points for each survey completed, which you can later cash in for discount vouchers at various retailers. If you love filling in surveys, Toluna is definitely for you. But anybody who has a few minutes to spare should also consider signing up to Toluna for other good reasons too, one of the most popular being to make/save money.
So what is exactly that Toluna has to offer to its members?
1) Free test products
Every member is entitled to sign up as a tester for Toluna’s weekly samples. The products range from toothbrushes to nail polishes, but in my experience they are mainly Health & Beauty related goodies. The best part is, that all of the test products are from quality brands, such as L’Oreal, Nivea, Revlon, Colgate, Essie, Garnier, Nivea, Maybelline, etc. The method is simple – register as a tester and wait for response. Each week a number of members will be selected randomly whom will receive the product entirely free of charge, in exchange for a short review.
Tip: complete your profile to have a better chance being selected as a tester. Although testers are chosen randomly, more active members have a greater chance of being selected.
2) Cash rewards
All Toluna activities are free of charge, but your participation in many of them will be awarded by points. These points can be redeemed at Toluna’s Rewards Centre, where you’ll find apps, iTunes credit, discount vouchers to be used at retailers such as oo.com.au, ToysRUs, Hoyts and David Jones, and even EFTPOS and Prepaid Visa credit. I feel that this selection offers most people a chance to spend their points freely on whatever they wish, without being forced to pick up a specific product or end up with a collection of “useless” points.
The amount of points you can earn ranges from a few hundred to a few thousand depending on the survey you take, plus you’ll also get 500 points for signing up and 100 points for each category when completing your profile. To give you an idea how much your points are actually worth – a $10 oo.com.au voucher would cost you 30.000 points, a $20 iTunes card can be redeemed for 60.000 points, which is the same amount for a $20 EFTPOS card as well. If you’re aiming high, you’ll need to collect 150.000 points which will get you $50 to spend at virtually anywhere you want.
3) Anywhere at any time
Time is money, so Toluna rewards you with points according to the time you spend answering surveys. But you don’t need to spend hours at Toluna, you can just do it whenever you’ve got time. Although the average survey is estimated to take 15 – 20 minutes to complete, there are some quicker ones which shouldn’t take you more than five minutes to answer. So if you love sharing your opinion, might as well earn some points for it; not to mention that you can do it on the move via Toluna’s app, available on iOS and Android.
4) Polls & Battles
Every user at Toluna can create their own polls as well as set up a simple voting question under the Battles section. The community votes and participates in these, giving you a platform to do your research using real people’s opinion. You can then use the results of your poll not only to draw a conclusion based on a personal query you may have had, but also use them for work, on your website or other channels too. Toluna also offers a free survey tool to create your own surveys for more complex topics or wider market research.
Toluna has two sections where you can win prizes, both of which you’ll find under the Rewards Centre. One is their traditional lottery, the Sweepstakes. Here you can enter the draw by paying for your lottery ticket with your points. The monthly prize draw costs 500 points, meanwhile to win specific prizes such as their current 60” LED TV you’ll need to sacrifice 1000 of your precious points to be put in the pot.
Another way to win prizes is Toluna’s exclusive instant win game, called Gifties. You can choose from a variety of virtual Gifties representing real items, which you can send to your friends or followers. Upon purchasing your “gift” (ranging between 50 to 500 points) you can instantly reveal whether you’ve won the prize or not.
So it seems that Toluna is all fun and games, offering an opportunity to get your hands on some prizes, samples and guaranteed discounts completely for free. There’s absolutely nothing to lose, so why not give it a go?!
